Most warehousing problems in this sector are not really storage problems. They are compliance problems: a routing guide you did not write, an appointment window you cannot miss twice, a pallet spec that changes by banner, and a chargeback that arrives a month after the load did. The calendar is just as unforgiving. A flyer week or a seasonal reset does not move, so a mispicked carton or a trailer that lands a day late means the promotion runs without your product. Behind all of it sits the vendor scorecard. Late counts against you, early counts against you, and enough misses turn a delivery problem into a conversation about the listing itself.
We have been delivering into those DCs for decades, dozens of trailers a day across Western Canada. When your product sits in our building and leaves on our truck, the storage and the delivery are one conversation and one invoice, and there is no gap between the warehouse and the carrier for a missed window to hide in. Questions we get asked
What happens if we miss an appointment window?
We treat the window as a hard commitment, because missing one costs everybody money. Our own trucks and our own dispatch mean the schedule is ours to hold rather than a third party's to miss, and you get one named contact with the authority to fix things rather than a ticket queue.
We only ship a handful of pallets per PO. Is that too small for you?
No, and this is where our shape works in your favour. Our trucks are already backed into the major grocery and general-merchandise DCs every working day, so your pallets ride runs that were happening anyway, under your PO and your appointment. You get the reliability of a daily lane at a few-pallets volume, and the storage and the delivery stay on one invoice.
We've just won our first listing. Can you handle a launch PO?
Yes. A reset date does not move, and a short ship on a first PO is a hard way to start with a banner you worked to win. Send us the routing guide and the reset date. We work backwards from the DC window, and a supervisor walks the first outbound with you. Launch volumes are usually small, and that is fine. Most of our larger accounts started on a handful of pallets.
Can you handle our labelling and pallet specs?
Yes. Compliance stickering, re-labelling, barcode application and mixed-SKU pallet builds are routine. Send the spec, and if it is unusual we will walk the first run with you before it goes live.
Our retailer requires a specific pallet type. Can you transfer our product onto it?
Yes, and it is routine work here. Product comes off your inbound or out of a container, goes onto the pallet your retailer specifies, and gets wrapped and labelled to the routing guide before it leaves on a booked appointment. We keep the common pallet types in stock, and if the spec calls for particular label placement or carton orientation, say so and we will build to it.
We import our product — can you handle the container end too?
Yes. We pull the container on our own chassis, strip it, and put the product away, in either city. Vancouver sits about 14 minutes from GCT Vanterm, so the container leg stays short and the box goes back before demurrage starts.
We ship Western Canada from the East. Why hold stock out here at all?
Because the appointment window is in Calgary or Vancouver and your stock is the better part of a week away. Vendors covering the West from Ontario carry bigger safety stock and pay premium freight to recover from a slip, and a hard winter or a capacity crunch still stretches the transit past the window. Hold stock on our floor instead: Calgary for the Prairies, Vancouver for the Lower Mainland and the port. A DC order becomes a local delivery on our own trucks, and our line haul between the two cities runs six days a week.
Do you store food or beverage?
Yes, on both floors. Sealed, shelf-stable food and packaged beverage sit on the same dry ambient racking in Calgary and in Vancouver, with dates and lot codes captured at receiving. Chilled and frozen run at Rolls Right Cold Storage, our own Vancouver operation, which is HACCP certified and food grade, and our refrigerated trucks move product between it and both warehouses.
